Classroom Related

  • If an issue is classroom related, the issue should be expressed to the teacher either by written note or phone message left with the school office. The teacher will not be called from class to discuss the issue.
  • Notes, emails and phone calls to a teacher will be responded to within 48 hours (i.e. at least notification from the teacher that he/she is working on resolving the issue) after they are received, barring unforeseen circumstances.
  • Parents/guardians and the teacher should work together to resolve the issue.
  • If there is a need to address an issue with more than one teacher (including ASP), a meeting can be arranged by one of the teachers.
  • If the issue is not adequately resolved by the parents/guardians and teacher, the parents/guardians and teacher should meet with a school administrator in an effort to resolve the issue.
  • If the issue is addressed by a parent/guardian to a member of the School Advisory Council, the Council member should recommend that the parent/guardian follow the procedure mentioned above.
  • If, for whatever reason, the parent/guardian feels that he/she cannot address an issue with a teacher, the Council member should inform the parent/guardian that the issue can not be resolved without having the parent/guardian talk to the teacher or an administrator.
  • The administrator and/or teacher will take the appropriate action needed to resolve the issue.
  • Confidentiality will always be maintained.
  • Anonymous issues will generally not be addressed.
  • Members of the School Advisory Council will assist in resolving issues but do not have the authority to resolve issues on their own.

Non-Classroom Related Issue

  • Any school issue that is not a classroom related issue should be addressed to an administrator.
  • If a non-classroom related issue is addressed to a member of the School Advisory Council, the Council member will contact an administrator in an effort to resolve the issue.

Athletic Related Issue

  • If an issue is related to athletics, the lines of communication are with the coach, then the commissioner of the sport, then the President of the Athletic Board, and finally with the Athletic Director.

Electronic Devices and Cell Phones

The use of items such as cellular telephones, pagers, beepers, and all other handheld electronic or digital devices including, walkmans, video games, CD players, DVD players, palm and personal computers etc. is not permitted at St. Joan of Arc during regular school hours. Although the use of these devices is prevalent today, these devices are not appropriate for use during school hours, and their use should be limited to hours outside of school. Should parents need to contact their student during school hours in an emergency, they may do so by contacting the school office directly. If students find it necessary to bring a cell phone to school, it must be turned off, remain in the book bag and not be visible during school hours.

Since it is important to develop an atmosphere of study in the school, use of these items will make them subject to confiscation by the administration. Any items that are confiscated will be returned to the student and/or parent at the discretion of the administration. An ongoing failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action.
